Dr. S Jaishankar (External Affairs Minister, Government of
India) while addressing the students of IIT Guwahati recognized the importance
of the IITs as one of India’s most well recognized brands with limitless
opportunities in the future. He urged students to adopt practical problem-solving
approaches as a part of their engineering education that can add value to
society. He also emphasized on the need for engineers to develop a vision for
the country and support the governments measures to resolve long standing
issues which are existing in society.
The Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also graced the occasion and emphasized on the importance of IIT Guwahati and its immense potential as a bellwether of Indian education. With a thriving academic environment, the globally relevant research activities being conducted at the institute have significantly benefitted our society, he said. Dr. Sarma stressed upon the role of premier institutes in the northeast (such as IIT Guwahati) to help drive India’s “Act East” policy, which can help economically connect the countries northeast region to south east Asian countries.
The Chief Minister, offering his thanks to the External
Affairs Minister for visiting Assam, expressed that the visit of an endless
series of senior clergymen (alluding to the visit of the union Home minister,
the Union Defence Minister, and the Prime Minister himself) from the Prime
Minister Narendra Modi-drove Cabinet within a month talks volume about the
significance the ongoing regulation at the Centre joins towards the development
and improvement of the north-eastern district. Prior in the day, the Chief
Minister, alongside the Union External Affairs Minister, visited an event
within IIT Guwahati that was focused on innovation.
