How Hard Is Georgetown to Get Into?

Acceptance rate at Georgetown University

14.5% of applicants are accepted to Georgetown. Only 15 applications out of every 100 are accepted.

This demonstrates how rigorously selective the school is. To pass their initial filters and show that you are academically prepared, you must fulfill their GPA and SAT/ACT standards. If you don't meet their standards, your chances of getting in are nearly nil.

After clearing this hurdle, you'll need to impress Georgetown application readers with your extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation.

GPA Requirements at Georgetown

Although many institutions demand a minimum GPA, this is typically merely the minimal minimum to submit an application without having it immediately rejected.

The GPA needed to have a real chance of admission is the one that matters most. We look at the current student body's average GPA for this.

The typical GPA at Georgetown is 4.01.

With a GPA of 4.01, Georgetown anticipates you to be at the top of your class. You'll need to achieve virtually straight As in all of your classes in order to compete with other applicants. You should also enroll in challenging programs, such as AP or IB courses, to show that college-level coursework is straightforward.

It is challenging to change your GPA in time for college applications if you are a junior or senior. You must raise your SAT or ACT score if your grade point average is at or below the school average of 4.01. This will let you effectively compete against applicants who have GPAs that are higher than your own.

Georgetown SAT Prerequisites

Many schools claim to have no SAT cutoff, but in reality, there is a hidden SAT requirement. This is based on the average score at the school.

Georgetown's average SAT composite score is 1450 on a 1600 SAT scale.

This score places Georgetown in a strong competitive position for SAT test scores.

*Analysis of Georgetown SAT Scores (New 1600 SAT)

The New SAT 25th percentile score is 1370, and the New SAT 75th percentile score is 1530. In other words, a 1370 on the New SAT puts you below average, whereas a 1530 puts you above average.

The following is a breakdown of new SAT scores by section:

Georgetown ACT Prerequisites

Like the SAT, Georgetown is unlikely to have a hard ACT cutoff, but if you score too low, your application will be rejected.

Georgetown's average ACT score is 33. With this score, Georgetown is very competitive for ACT scores.

The ACT score in the 25th percentile is 31, and the ACT score in the 75th percentile is 34.

Even if Georgetown claims to have no minimum ACT requirement, if you apply with a 31 or lower, you will have a very difficult time getting in unless you have something else very impressive in your application. Because there are so many applicants scoring 33 and above, a 31 will appear academically weak.

Policy for Sending ACT Scores

The way your scores are sent is significantly more advantageous if you take the ACT rather than the SAT, which has a big impact on your test-taking strategy.

When you transmit ACT scores to universities, you have total control over which exams you submit. You could administer ten tests and transmit only the top one. Many institutions demand you to send all of your prior tests, unlike the SAT.
