Ukrain MBBS Students Seek Direction From NMC On Their Future

The war in Ukraine has displaced several thousand Indian students who were pursuing medicine from the country. Now that they are back, they have been in a state of confusion about their future due to no concrete action taken by the NMC (National Medical Commission). The Indian Supreme Court had previously requested the NMC to submit a proposal by June 29th. Due to several delays the announcement is now expected by mid-July.

More than 200 students staged a protest outside the NMC Delhi office demanding that the body decide about the future of their education in Indian medical colleges. Progressive states such as Karnataka & West Bengal have taken a decision to allow Ukraine returned students to be observers in state colleges while they wait on the NMC’s decision There is a possibility that the NMC will allow students to complete their course online before appearing for the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Exam). Given this scenario students will need to complete a 2-year internship (instead of 1 year).

Many students feel that the draft proposal created by the NMC is not a solution to their problems and will put them at a back foot as compared to their peers. Despite.
