My JEE Preparation Journey
This is my JEE Preparation Journey. I started my preparation in September
2017 and was not easy, but I got the results that I wanted. Coming from a
middle-class family, the only option my parents gave me were to either study
engineering or medicine. I had a natural knack for physics and wanted to pursue
something related to that. Hearing about stories of toppers getting into IITs
and bagging huge packages, I was naturally drawn to the idea of preparing for
it, but as I started, I realized a lot of things which I feel would be valuable
for aspirants who are just starting their preparation.
This article will talk about a lot of things which I wish I knew before starting, but the key message I would want to give students is to have a strong conviction from the beginning. You need to truly believe and feel the need to crack the exam before jumping into it. For me it was a dream to provide for my family and my passion for physics (this may vary from person to person) but the idea is to define a strong purpose for preparing. The simplest way to think of a purpose is to imagine what you want your life to look like and then thinking about how cracking JEE / IIT can help you achieve it. IITs open doors to amazing opportunities in start-ups, MNCs, research and many other areas, you need to think where you wish to be!
1. Start Strong & Build Momentum
Students should start preparing for IIT JEE as early as in their school days
(11th Grade is ideal). We should not put off preparation for IIT JEE till the
last minute. We need to start with a strong base and build momentum to be able
to succeed in the long run. The best way is to start from a base that is easy
to understand and then gradually move on to more difficult concepts. We should
also not just focus on one topic, but instead cover all topics in detail so
that we are well-versed with all of them. This will help us become better at
solving problems on the fly without having any difficulties later.
2. Find the Right Platforms To Prepare
One of the most important steps to get into IIT is the JEE. This exam is not
only difficult but also needs a lot of preparation and practice. There are many
platforms that help in preparation for this exam, but it is important to choose
the best one.
The best platforms for JEE preparation are websites like
1) Unacademy
2) Edulete
3) Testbook
4) Rancho
5) Vedantu
3. Give Many Mock Tests
Mock tests are a simulation of the real test. They are used to prepare
students for the exam and help them identify their strengths and weaknesses.
Mock tests are often used as a diagnostic tool by teachers to identify where
they should focus their instruction time during the school year, what skills
need to be strengthened, or what concepts need more review.
A reward based mock test is a way of gamifying the process of preparing for a test. Reward based mock tests are less about learning and more about rewarding students for their hard work. Students will be rewarded with points that can be used to buy items or unlock levels which in turn will motivate them to take more tests. There are new age platforms which help students win rewards for their performance on such tests (www.edulete.in). I highly recommend trying out such concepts as they only help increase your spirit of competition.
4. Stay Motivated & Consistently Achieve Progress
To maintain motivation during exam preparation, it is important to set
achievable goals. It is also important to be aware of the reasons for not
studying. The most common reasons for not studying are lack of time, boredom,
and procrastination. It can be helpful to make a list of the tasks that need to
be done and prioritizing them according to their importance. It is also
important not to give up because there are always going to be setbacks during
JEE preparation. Keep reminding yourself about the reason why you started and
why it is important that you succeed. Think about the hopes and aspirations
your loved ones have from you and believe that your efforts will only increase
the likelihood of your success.
5. Relax & Maintain Mental Wellbeing
Mental health is a serious issue in society. Mental wellbeing is a measure
of how well an individual's mental health is. It includes their emotional,
psychological, and social wellbeing. Students are more likely to experience
anxiety and depression as they are under immense pressure to perform
academically. This can lead to low self-esteem and a sense of isolation which
may lead to negative thoughts or actions.
There are various ways that we can help students with their mental
well-being:
1. Meditation
2. Physical
Activity
3. Healthy
Food
4. Hobbies
(Cooking, Art, Movies, Sports etc.)
5. Spirituality
Think Like a Topper & See Yourself Become One
A champion mindset is a state of mind in which you have a strong sense of
will power, self-confidence, and determination. A champion mindset is not
something that can be achieved overnight. It is the result of a long process of
hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Mindset is an important factor in
achieving success. It influences our behaviour, thoughts, and emotions. The way
we think about ourselves and the world around us is what shapes our mindset. It
is a product of our environment and experiences, but it can be changed.
Changing your mindset can have a significant impact on your life.
Start thinking what a champion / topper would do while preparing and see how
your results start to improve. Maintain such a mindset and don’t be afraid to
fail. Every journey ends (for good or for the bad) and teaches you something.
More people fail in the JEE than the ones who succeed, but the final outcomes
in life are not determined by singular events. Keep fighting, keep hustling,
and see yourself shine beyond your wildest imagination
