The NTA (National Testing Agency) and the Health Ministry have decided to allow few students to retake the NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) exam. The decision comes after several legal complaints were made related to an incident where female candidates were forced to remove their innerwear in the name of checking / frisking (the incident took place in Kollum in Kerala).
A fact-finding
committee was instituted to investigate the matter and address the grievances
of the students affected by the incident. A retest will be conducted on 4th
September across 6 centres where students were affected by exam day issues.
Reports
suggest that the retest will not impact the official result declaration which
is planned on 7th September 2022. The NTA will also be releasing the
official answer key tomorrow (30th August 2022) and will provide
students a 2-3 day window to raise objections to the same (students will need to
pay a fee of INR 200 per question for raising objections / concerns).
The NEET is a
national level entrance exam for admission into MBBS and BDS courses in India.
The exam was conducted by the NTA on 17th July 2022 and had a record
1.8 million applicants this year.
